The Republican Civil War!!!
By Patrick Michael
Tomorrows off year elections have been described by the left in every possible way, from Robert Gibbs and his “I don’t think they portend a lot” to Andrew Sullivan’s tirade in the Atlantic “… a Hoffman victory will embolden the grassroots political insurgency. From the mindset of an ideologically purist base – where a moderate Republican in New York state is a ‘radical leftist‘ – this makes sense. But for all those outside the 20 percent self-identified Republican base, it looks like a mix of a purge and a clusterfuck. If Hoffman wins, and is then embraced by the GOP establishment, you have a recipe for a real nutroots take-over. This blood in the water will bring on more and more and deadlier and deadlier sharks.”
Whereas most people reading this probably know who Robert Gibbs is, they are most likely not that familiar with Andrew Sullivan. Writing an article called the Daily Dish, Sullivan remains one of Barrack Obama’s biggest fans and consistently lashes out at everything and anyone on the right (such as his recent attacks on Sarah Palin). His daily article appears in the Atlantic and is consistently carried by The Huffington Post – which should tell you all that you need to know.
Let’s look a little bit at his argument here, first of all is he trying to describe Dede Scozzafava as a “moderate republican”?? I’m not sure that only the “ideologically purist base” finds that statement laughable. I mean the women was more liberal than the liberal democrat candidate. Or as was said today on Fox News, “she makes Senator Snowe look like Rush Limbaugh” And isn’t it funny how Andrew leaves all the back door wheeling and dealing that his favorite white house has been engaging in with Scozzafava out of the article? And look at the groups that were contributing to her campaign (From Michelle Malkin’s website) “This week, Scozzafava received $1,000 from the Planned Parenthood PAC and $2,500 from the New York Choice PAC. The International Longshoreman’s Association and the United Transportation Union PAC each chipped in $2,500, while the local International Brotherhood of Electric Workers gave her $1,000. The National Education Association’s political action committee spent $5,000 for her campaign, while a renewable energy association donated $2,000.” Yes sir, that reads like a who’s who of Republican doners list doesn’t it?
In so far as Sullivan’s base numbers are concerned the ‘20%’ number that he so casually throws out, the same poll (http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/shrinkinggop.jpg) shows those who identify themselves as Strong Democrats at 21% big whoop!!
Purge? If by purge he means getting rid of what are commonly referred to as “RINOS”, well let’s hope so. It would be awful nice to have a representative whose vote on any given subject was not both a huge surprise and a huge disappointment.
In so far as the ‘nutroots’ take over is concerned, who could he possibly have in mind? It seems to me that the nutroots have taken over already, and setup shop in the White House.
